7th President of @LCCStars#EndCCStigma My favorite idea: the American comprehensive community college. 3-time @michiganstateu grad (BA, MA, PhD). he/him.
Thoughtful and true reflections from my amazing colleague and @AspenHigherEd Cohort 2 friend Dr. Felicia Ganther. @drkastout is right: Best job ever. Loneliest job ever. Thank you for sharing Dr. G!!!
This piece, with candid and authentic reflections by a new president, is worth a read. “The one thing that hit me harder than a stack of bricks was the level of loneliness one experiences as the CEO.” @comm_collegeccdaily.com/2023/07/lonely-b…
In 1953, 41% of Ohio voters cast a ballot to keep the word “white” in the state constitutional requirement for service in the National Guard. First, that’s DISGUSTING. Second, I hope all my Ohio friends vote NO on Issue 1. ballotpedia.org/Ohio_Qualifi…
I said what I said:
"Attempts to redefine or delegitimize efforts in DEI are deeply out of alignment with the clearly stated priorities of our private sector employers."
The political attack on diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education is WRONG.

Community college leaders can’t sit on the sidelines, for three important reasons, Steve Robinson writes. #HigherEdbit.ly/3nLYQgb

We had an inspiring meeting with our partners at @GVSU today. At the end, I was able to share my family’s pride about one of their founding trustees, Kenneth W. Robinson, a @UAW leader who left his mark on West Michigan in a big way. He’d be so proud of GVSU, @PhillyGVPres!!!

I want to amplify a point made by @donofriojeff in the @BusLeadersforMI report that is getting lots of ink today. This point isn't getting much play:
EQUITY MATTERS!
The business leaders in our state are calling for us to address equity. /1
.@donofriojeff made this point on the radio this morning while talking to @LCCStars Trustee Andrew Abood. Our state's largest employers want a qualified, diverse workforce. spreaker.com/user/5707063/mb… /4
To paraphrase @GovWhitmer, attacks on DEI in higher education are bad for business. While there's lots to focus on in the @BusLeadersforMI report, let's not lose sight of the strong business case for DEI in higher ed. /END michiganadvance.com/2023/01/….
If I'm late for my next meeting, it's because Onanefe and I were nerding out about Nigerian pop music in the StarZone. Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Prince Nico Mbarga. Fun! [video is a photo of Steve & Onanefe with 25 seconds of "Sweet Mother," great Nigerian highlife music]
Hard to believe, but today is the first day of my 4th year as President of @LCCStars. My family and I are so happy to be back in the great state of @PureMichigan, and I'm the luckiest community college guy in the country to work at this amazing college. [photos: Kevin Fowler]

“LCC has been one of the best community colleges,” Kejjan said. “I mean, the help that I’ve been getting here and everything and my goals, the help that I’ve been getting to be able to transfer to MSU after this has been great.” wilx.com/2023/07/20/study-su…
I’m having an absolute blast facilitating the @AspenHigherEd Student Success module for the @TheOACC Leadership Academy in Dublin, OH. What a fantastic group of #community_college leaders!!!
