I am horrified by the deadly attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego, an apparent act of anti-Muslim violence.
Islamophobia endangers Muslim communities across this country. We must confront it directly and stand together against the politics of fear and division. My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and the entire community grieving this devastating attack.
The NYPD is increasing deployments to mosques across the city out of an abundance of caution. There are currently no known threats to NYC houses of worship.

I have prayed at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Like me, the Muslim-Americans who were targeted today pray for peace, for the future of their kids, for a better tomorrow. That’s what we all hope and pray for.
I am horrified by the shooting there today. But I’m not shocked or surprised. When politicians directly target Muslim-Americans, when the media fails to check them, this is the result. My prayers go out to the families of the victims.
All people deserve to worship and gather in peace, free from fear and hatred. Islamophobia, bigotry, and hate of all kinds have no place here.
