In a great classroom... the students aren’t the only learners. The TEACHER is a learner also. When teachers are curious, when they are vulnerable, when they continue to grow... they provide stronger instruction, and they provide a great example for their students.

In guided reading, students typically discuss the text as a group after reading the text. Ask them to turn and talk for a short time first so they can get their thinking into words and then have something to share with the group. #FPLiteracy

So many times we ask kids to write an essay... Then, in the name of scaffolding, we tell 'em what the claim should be, suggest the evidence they should use & mandate a structure. If these don't eventually go away, they are not scaffolds. They're impediments to critical thinking

Writers should get to choose what they work on. Goal-setting conferences are chances for Ts to lead kids in self-reflection and then Ts can supply strategies to support their goals. Here's one with a first grader youtube.com/watch?v=gfAQCiiv… #twtblog
