'Flower-de-luce' (Winter's Tale)
Yellow flag unfurling on the #Oxford canal 💛
Flags are one of our two native irises & I love the idea that their extravagantly drooping petals are the inspiration for the fleur-de-lis💛⚜️💛

Plants commonly known as “cranesbills” are so called because their long, pointed seed pods were thought to resemble the beak of the long-legged wading bird, the crane. The name inspired botanists to call the genus “Geranium” from geranós, the Greek word for crane. #FolkloreSunday
ALT Collage featuring several cranesbill geraniums in shades of violet, magenta and white. Close-up photographs show flowers, buds and the distinctive long, beak-like seed pods that inspired the name “cranesbill”. At the centre is an Art Nouveau-style illustration of a crane standing in shallow water among reeds and white flowers. The bird’s long neck curves gracefully as it gazes downward. Soft blue water and pale golden reflections create a tranquil decorative scene. Artist unknown.
