Why isn’t the Speaker of the House vote just anonymous ballot, first past the post, party be damned? They all know who can actually do the job. And they shouldn’t get paid if they aren’t working. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm rarely starstruck by museum exhibits, but these are the *actual* toys owned by Christopher Robin, which inspired Winnie-the-Pooh. Thanks to the team at the New York Public Library for taking such good care of them. @NYPL

Guaranteed the cowards raging to pull these books have not read them. This is fear feeding itself.
My reply to the board members of @FishersIN and @NoblesvilleIN seeking to remove my books (and over a hundred others) from the young adult literature shelves in their libraries. Heartbreaking for this to happen in Central Indiana, where I live and strive to support.

First of all, any time your loan changes status for any reason (in school deferment to repayment status or repayment status back to in school deferment), your interest capitalizes (gets added to your principle balance).

6. Since 2015, the U.S. has added more than $300 billion to annual defense spending. That is equivalent to the annual cost of universal pre-K, 2 years of free community college for every HS graduate, and health insurance for every uninsured American — combined.

The Texas legislature just voted to allow school boards to replace public school counselors with “no certification needed chaplains.” These are the same people who say they want schools to stick to “reading, science & math” instead of “indoctrination.”

I CANNOT with this. If we don’t start treating teachers like the qualified, educated professionals they are, THERE WILL BE NONE LEFT. Also, shout out to the introverted kids who use the classroom library instead of socializing after they finish their work. I see you. I was you

5. The new policy in Manatee, which is likely to be duplicated across Florida, was issued in response to HB 1467, which was signed into law by DeSantis last March. That law established that teachers could not be trusted to select books appropriate for their students.

A stunning 96% of apps used regularly in schools have data-sharing practices that “are not adequately safe for children,” according to a report by @SafeTechLabs. The group found that many apps shared students’ personal data with marketing firms. Read: buff.ly/3QaZr5f

I woke up this morning to a news alert that our @GirlsWhoCode middle-grade book series was banned by some school districts as part of the Mom for Liberty effort to ban books. To be honest, I am so angry I cannot breathe. newsweek.com/handmaids-tale-…

THIS. My meds are on the chopping block, too. Meds that allow us to function, work… We are not ok.
No. Semantics do not change reality. FORCED “Relocation” was the LEAST of the offenses. This is insulting.

Now seems like the time to elevate this gem of a 🧵. Biology FTW.

Amerie Jo Garza's father, a med aide, says he found out she was one of the victims when he arrived on the scene and was helping another little girl covered in blood. She told him her best friend had been shot. When he asked her name, she said his daughter's. There aren't words.

It takes a monster to kill children. But to watch monsters kill children again and again and do nothing isn’t just insanity—it’s inhumanity.
