ALT 150,000 tonnes: Approximate amount of clinical waste produced by the NHS every year. Clinical waste has a significant environmental impact. There are opportunities to review the materials and to find ways of re-using, remanufacturing, or recycling, thus turning them into valuable resources for future use. By doing so the NHS can save approximately £11 million every year and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 30% – equivalent to removing 2 million road miles a year.
