Yes, I'm the librarian staffing your personal local library's computer lab. You already knew that, because your library is the only one with computers, right?
Me: "Why does the stairwell smell like baby soap??"
Coworker, calmly, smiling, without missing a beat: "Because we were washing the babies before the feast tomorrow. You're coming?"
I love my coworkers.

Just saw this email, and it might be a way for someone to get into the profession without the graduate degree. If you're interested, ask and I'll send the detailed attachment. #librarylife
Patron: Did you get your hair cut?
Me: Yes, I did!
Patron, proudly: I could tell, see, because it's shorter.
(Me, unspoken) Yep. Good job, Patron. That's exactly how you tell.

Patron with limited English proficiency in lab tonight referred to the "@" symbol as "capital two," and I think I want to call it that forever now.

Do you think any patrons would notice if I put two separate Chrome shortcuts on the lab desktops, grabbed an Internet Explorer icon from the web & made it an icon, then assigned the icon to one of the Chrome shortcuts?
Sure, there's your blue E!

First thing this morning: Yay! A first library card for an excited child! One of my favorite things in the world!
One minute later, not out loud: WHY did you name this sweet child "Aorta???"

Some librarians are declining to purchase a book to avoid a challenge.

Let’s cancel the idea that Serious, Realistic stories are the only kind of stories worth making. The soul is nourished by the magic of a Miyazaki film or a wonderful kid’s book. I want to gawk in wonder as I read or watch a thing; I want to ache with joy.
Something I should do more often: Choose my books the old-fashioned way. No reviews, no selection guides, no collection criteria, just book jackets and quick skims. Once upon a time, I learned to love reading, just that way.
I still do.

Are so many library staff pro-public-transportation, pro-bicycle-friendly-streets, and pro-safe-pedestrian-walkways because those are often our own transportation options, because libraries can't pay enough?
Musing.

Just saw this. It's a big hint to use O*Net to describe past work using the magic words required by software gatekeepers. Programs scan for key terms & filter applications so the real people don't need to read them all... But software can be gamed. #librarylife#librarianproblems
