Welcome to Labour For Education. We study the education system through the eyes of the Labour Party.
(We are not an official account endorsed or recognised by Labour)
Thank you to @Comqton, @BreadandRosette and @Iabourite for their help with the new logo 😊
Step six of Labour's first steps: Recruit 6,500 new teachers in key subjects to prepare children for life, work and the future, paid for by ending tax breaks for private schools.
Education has become a sideshow for the Tories — despite a mental health crisis amongst children, crumbling schools, and much more besides.
Labour will put education at the heart of national life once again. We’ll break down barriers to opportunity.

What planet are you on @GillianKeegan? Under this Government:
➡️Teacher recruitment plummeting.
➡️Class sizes at record levels.
➡️70% of schools have less funding.
Stop waffling Gill and sort out this mess! #InvestInEducation
'Why are you still missing your targets?'
@ranvir01 asks Education Secretary Gillian Keegan why the government are missing their target number of teachers after 14 years in power.
What is the purpose of SATs? Surely tests should allow pupils to demonstrate what they can do, not try to catch them out? It's time to get rid of the whole toxic system #ScrapSATs#SATs#MoreThanAScore
I don't think today's reasoning paper in Maths can possibly give a true picture of where our pupils are. Convoluted questions, often out of context, and deliberately written in ways that children (and teachers) won't have seen before. Our children deserve better than this. #sats
.@MayorofLondon has committed to making #FreeSchoolMealsForAll permanent for primary school children. But beyond the capital, one in three children in poverty miss out on the hot, healthy school meal they need to thrive.
We've written to regional mayoral election candidates, asking them to join our call on Government for the same provision for all children, no matter where they grow up.

✍ We've written to all Metro Mayoral candidates calling for them to support nationwide action to expand #FreeSchoolMeals ahead of the May 2 elections!
85 health organisations, doctors, NGOs, academics, councillors, and celebrity chefs @ChefTomKerridge and @HughFW have signed them!

Labour is serious about the work of government and about breaking down the barriers to opportunity for all our young people.
That’s why you’ll never see us making a pledge without a plan and you’ll never see us playing games with families’ childcare.

We've joined with celebrity chefs Tom Kerridge and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall, charities, doctors and experts, to urge all candidates in upcoming mayoral elections to roll out free school meals across the country. @Food_Foundation#FreeSchoolMealsForAllfoodfoundation.org.uk/news/c…

✊Last year, we fought and won a 6.5% pay rise & £3 billion for education.
Now we need a pay rise to correct what you’ve lost, plus more cash for schools.
Govt – there's an education crisis, and it needs fixing NOW!
Here's how you can vote in our preliminary ballot.👇#PayUp24
Every child should have the chance to achieve and thrive.
Access to a rich and broad curriculum in every school is crucial to making that a reality.
@Keir_Starmer and I are determined to ensure that for each of us and all of us, background is no barrier to opportunity.

📺 WATCH: According to @RishiSunak his 'plan' is working in education. Is this the plan to create an acute funding crisis in our schools or for 1 in 6 teachers to need a second job? Then maybe that plan has worked!
Vote now to save our schools. #InvestInEducation#PayUp24
Teachers in England have 6.5 more children in their class than the average across European countries. This is a result of 14 years of chronic underfunding which has created a big hole in staffing.
Vote in our preliminary ballot to demand the Government #InvestInEducation. 🗳️
"I want taxes on working people to be lower, but you've always got to explain where the money comes from"
Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves also says "giving all children a good start in life" would be her instinct with a boosted economy

Today’s budget will offer no long term plan for young people’s future.
Young graduates are £1,200 worse off than before the pandemic and earning less than before the 2008 crash.
Only Labour has a plan to get Britain’s future back 🌹

SHOCKING BUDGET
Nothing to address the recruitment & retention crisis.
Nothing to repair the school estate.
Just real terms cuts to funding & pay - wanting schools to do more with less.
Schools need £3.2bn to restore spending power to 2010, and it's not just @NEUnion saying this but also @TheIFS.

Vote yes to ACTION on FUNDING & PAY
Very little help for the education system in #Budget24 today. So so disappointing. Education is the backbone of our society, it helps our society to flourish, gain skills etc.
