This #TransDayOfVisibility we are sending our solidarity to all the trans youth who are fighting against attempts to withdraw the healthcare they need to survive. Visibility is not just being seen; it must also come with the power to live freely as yourself.

LCTR also condemns the amendments proposed by Labour MSPs Johann Lamont and Rhoda Grant, which seek to exclude gender identity as a protected characteristic and defend transphobes. Labour cannot be a credible force against transphobia whilst it thrives within the party.
LCTR sends solidarity to our trans siblings in Scotland. Trans lives and our right to exist cannot be up for debate. Interim Scottish Labour leader @jackiebmsp must call on @HumzaYousaf to withdraw his amendment, and take a stand against transphobia wherever we find it.

Today's judgement on puberty blockers is deeply disappointing, and threatens to further limit access to trans healthcare. LCTR sends solidarity to trans young people, and calls on Labour to make the case for a truly universal healthcare system that supports trans people.

New on our blog: A short report on LGBT Labour's 2020 AGM, where a wealth of radical new policy on trans healthcare, education and more was passed; as well as supporting closer engagement with LCTR and a mass movement for trans rights. Read it here: labour-trans.org/blog/lgbt-l… 📖

This #TransDayOfRemembrance we must not only remember, but commit to fighting against the transphobia that has taken so many lives. Labour cannot truly honour those lost without that commitment, and as long as it allows transphobia in the party it is failing their memory.

Now that we have a new NEC we urgently need a new code of conduct and action against transphobia. I'm looking to hear from trans people who are willing to share their experiences of transphobia in the party for an article on this. My DMs are open - please get in touch!

Requiring trans members to provide their birth/legal sex to the party violates our privacy and is in opposition to self-identification. That the party's NEC Equalities Chair could support this is deeply worrying and further entrenches transphobia in Labour at the highest level.
21 Oct 2020
Extremely concerning to see evidence that Ann Henderson, Labour NEC Equalities Chair and NEC candidate, was at a Woman's Place UK meeting last week. Here she appears to suggest that the party rulebook should require members to state their legal/birth sex for party records.

This measure would raise the danger of official transphobia in Labour and shred our support for real equality, driving out trans and LGBT members. We hope Ann Henderson will clarify if she made these comments, and if she supports our party's policy of self-identification.

LCTR stands in solidarity with @heatherisone and is saddened to see that Duffield has not followed through on her past commitments whatsoever. Duffield is contributing to transphobic hostility in Labour which is contrary to both our values and rules; the whip must be withdrawn.

LCTR was critical of this "apology" because it did not show an understanding of harm caused, nor did it make commitments to address that harm. Real action is needed or we must conclude again that transphobia is not considered a serious problem by Labour x.com/Labour_Trans/status/12…

LCTR welcomes the progress made on these concerns, but we do not feel that this statement demonstrates an adequate understanding of the harm done by Rosie Duffield's actions and makes a sufficient commitment to resolving them and supporting trans people.

We have also not had contact from de Cordova or the leadership in response to the below. The lack of real action on these incidents show again that Labour is failing its claim to be the "party of equality" and allowing transphobia for political ease. x.com/Labour_Trans/status/13…

It is deeply saddening for trans people to see our Shadow Equalities Minister sharing an article which mis-represents the Law Societies guidance and makes transphobic comments. Read our statement below ⬇️ and here: labour-trans.org/news/statem…

If Labour is the "party of equality" then there must be an apology and retraction, and we re-iterate our offer to meet with Marsha and the leadership to discuss tackling transphobia. If an apology is not forthcoming then our "zero-tolerance" approach to bigotry must be applied.

We all need a society where we have security in work, housing, and education; with services that meet our needs. This is why legal recognition, with an accessible process which respects our dignity, is crucial. The government's GRA reform does not deliver this. Our statement:

We are asking @Keir_Starmer and @MarshaDeCordova to work with us to hold the Conservatives to account on this proposal. If we are to be the party of equality then we must demand better from this government, and the whole party must stand up unequivocally for trans rights.
