This week's episode is: Your First 90 Days As An Engineering Manager!

ALT Doing too many things at once
It’s better to take on less tasks and complete them well than take on too many things and have things fall through the cracks.
Changing too much too quickly
During your first 90 days, make note of things tht might need to be changed, but use this time to step back and observe. Don’t come in and make changes (unless absolutely necessary). Focus on building trust.
Neglecting the cultural side of engineering management
The people side of engineering management is just as important as the technical side. Remember to invest time into team culture and trust.
Treating everything as an emergency
Very few things in management are a crisis (i.e. harassment, physical safety issues). Before taking action on something, pause and evaluate whether it truly requires action and what the appropriate response should be.
Addressing conflict is one of the most difficult parts of the manager role. This week we're discussing what it takes to make the shift from Engineer to EM!
