Very sad to hear about the death of my old friend, the wonderful Kanai Das Baul. He had been Ill with TB for some time. I wrote about him, his beautiful voice and his life in the Tarapith cremation-ground in Nine Lives: ‘Sometimes the mad and sightless can understand things better, and more clearly, than the sane and the sighted,' he said. ‘The blind are never deceived by appearances. It is only those of us who have no eyes that can see through the lure of maya, and glimpse reality for what it is.’

Absolutely disgraceful racism from @jkyleofficial on @TalkTV. As the camera zooms in on me and @DrHWazir on the picket line, he sneers that “a lot of them have come into this country to be doctors.” He based this solely on the colour of my skin. I was born in the UK. I studied and trained in the UK and I currently work as a doctor in the NHS. My grandfather fought for this country in WW2. This is racist, demeaning, and utterly unacceptable.

The Vice President is abroad campaigning for a dictator. The President is threatening to wipe out an entire civilization. Congress is on recess. This is a total collapse of American moral leadership — at a historic scale.

We were proud to see our consultant obstetrician Chineze Otigbah supporting Amisha Adhia’s campaign to raise awareness of placenta accreta on @SkyNews. Chineze was the only clinician to listen to Amisha & diagnose this potentially fatal birth complication. bhrhospitals.nhs.uk/news/nat…

Receiving a cancer diagnosis is hard for anyone, but it is especially hard for parents with younger children. Too many are forced to worry about travel costs for treatment. That’s why we’re launching a £10m travel fund for young people with cancer. 👇🏻 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yv…

Lord Stevens, former NHS chief executive, speaks for the first time (I think?) in committee stage. A really significant intervention: —NHS should not be involved since some will receive AS motivated by non-health issues (eg financial problems or feeling like a burden) —The bill redefines the NHS Charter, in a “somewhat camouflaged” way —AS is completely different from withdrawal of treatment —If AS is part of NHS, “risks undermining the trust that people have in their clinicians” —Risks increasing pressure on people to choose AS to “protect the NHS” —Govt have been “less than forthcoming” about the future of palliative care, and have not straightforwardly answered his question from two months ago

It is absolutely right that the £250k of pubkic money invested per doctor as it is in the @UKgovcomms, is utilised to serve the people. So, like many other countries, UK must prefer that all local graduates are offered training posts.

But the #equalityact should explore impact of a hurried and flawed legislation on exclusion of #IMGS who are invested in supporting the @NHSuk system (41%) from training and progression. A fairer option would be to offer #transition of 2 years/ immigration status. @BAPIOUK
