Idk why people are being purposefully obtuse here, like I think it's a reasonable expression to be surprised at $1000 merchandising fee when the base art is $45, not to mention it's normally a percentage from base price (e.g. 50 to 75%, or even 100% for more popular artist)

Artists can price their art however they want and customers can choose to pay that price if they’d like.
No one is forcing you to buy it. Value is different to everyone.
It’s totally fair to not want to spend that much, but why make a big deal about it?
