One thing where CloudFormation wins over terraform is API stability and state mgmt.
I spent hours to update an old terraform based project up to the latest release. tf, provider, state updates, breaking changes... Definitely didn't create anything of value in that time.
Did a 6 hour Senna watching marathon last evening. I’ll give it a 6.8/10. The series unfortunately to me lacks depth. It touches a lot of aspects of Sennas life, but the characters and their conversations lack depth to turn this into the emotional rollercoaster that it should be.
Like it's actually insane how more informative my feed on BlueSky is compared to X. It's TikTok-levels bad over here, it's fun (like mid-2010 Tech Twitter vibes) over there.
This release puts AWS CloudFormation ahead of its competition: aws.amazon.com/blogs/devops/…
While CloudFormation sometimes is a bit slower than it's counterparts, the timeline view will significantly aid in improving the situation. Ironic how AWS wins on UX here 🙈
I hope CloudFormation change sets will get a little speed boost in the near future as well.
If you use aws-cdk make sure to use swc as a compiler for an extra performance boost during synth. 🚀
Computing technology only ever is economically viable to produce at scale.
As such it's kind of a weird equalizer, where almost anything else has a luxury market, anything based on mostly chips will be the same product for those with a net worth in billions or only thousands.
With that being the case the only real difference tech could make here is to cater for the billionaires with a more personalized and perhaps more efficient way of getting results with those tools. There's nothing else to spend their money on in this space.
It's a weird paradox.
So much cool tech (SOCI, lazy loading container images, firecracker, proper docker-in-docker support, multi-arch, build caching etc. etc.), but the "reachable" status quo for anyone that doesn't dedicate their lives to custom platform development is far away from that...
Great to see AWS finally taking care of us Germans and our quirks in regards to payments...

Only half serious, but looking forward to paying my cloud provider in cash next? 😬
