Seems like 95% of Google's search quality roadmap is based on PR outrage

it is fucking ludicrous how easy it is to rank for high value keywords on a 40 DR domain right now. The honeymoon period with Google is unreal. Way easier than domains at 85 with legit brands Creates a ton of weird incentives and borked feedback loops.

Would not have expected AI to replace internal decks with HTML files. But here we are. Fucking wild.

Being detailed-oriented is maddening these days. "How did they fuck up this spreadsheet so badly? Oh right, AI made it. And no one checked it."

If you're not sure where the over-the-top hate towards em dashes and other AI-isms comes from, spend 2 weeks approving copy from any B2B marketing or sales team. Slinging AI slop like 2am pancakes at a Denny's on friday night.

So glad I started operating under the assumption that search traffic would go to zero. Recap of Google I/O from techcrunch:

Me: I really should use AI in more of my research. 5 mins later: Claude, did you just hallucinate an entire fucking subreddit?

One of the great disparities of today's media landscape: algos love LLM content but people... do not.

Just spun up a branded subreddit for a client. Got our first comment! ... It's an AI comment!

Why the fuck does every open marketing role at an AI company go viral. EVENTS: people still want to get drunk together! SEO: we still have jobs! MEDIA LEADER: "content teams" are grandparent marketing, now we're building media empires! BREAKING: AI companies need marketing.

One job title that I believe will get obliterated by AI: SaaS copywriter Already advised multiple CEOs that we don't need copywriters. And I love copywriting. What's going on? Tee Claude up with a strong positioning doc and you can get all the copy you need at high quality.

Y'all got any AI meeting summaries for all these fucking AI meeting summaries?

As a rough rule, search traffic is down 25% YoY for 3 years in a row. imo, here's why: 1) Google AIOs drive little traffic 2) Google is shoving more ads into everything 3) Users are bailing to LLMs, the pie keeps shrinking I don't see this stopping. Proceed accordingly.

This is the most successful B2B SEO content program today. 1 for "ai agent" 1 for “what is ai” 4 for the monster "ai". They're kicking the shit outta everyone, in the most frenzied, hype-driven category that I have ever seen in my career. So who is it? Mother fucking IBM.

The AI frenzy reminds me of the productivity tool craze of the late aughts. Pomodoro! Sync! GTD! Automate! I got bigger wins from doing 1 major project/day, 250/year. Going to 1000 didn't help, picking the best 250 did. Productivity tools don't change that. Neither do AI tools.

One of the crazier SEO developments not enough people are talking about: Nerdwallet monthly search sessions are down 68% in the last 2 years. - Mar 2024: 25M (might have been the high point) - Mar 2025: 18M - Mar 2026: 8M A nearly 70% drop. Fucking brutal.

If I ever get to speak with whoever came up with EEAT at Google, I'll tell them 3 things: 1) I admire the aspiration of EEAT. Terrible fucking acronym though. I feel like a toddler at the dentist every time I say it. EEEEEEEEat.

2) It is still very much an aspiration. I do not think about EEAT at all. And for every example I have where it sorta works, I have 2 more where it's completely busted.

3) Maybe stick to using frameworks like this internally until you've battle tested your systems and can deliver results somewhat consistently? Instead of jerking around the entire SEO community? Now I'm the one with aspirations.
