I commend @AGRobBonta for holding plastic bag producers accountable for false recycling claims. Californians deserve to know that products labeled as recyclable truly are. The state must keep acting to curb the scourge of plastic waste. I’m proud that my bill #SB1053 will ban plastic bags at grocery store checkout next year.

Several years ago, my office launched an investigation into the plastic bag industry over reports that, despite manufacturers’ claims, plastic bags are not actually recyclable in CA.
This investigation has uncovered years of environmental harm, corporate avoidance, and systemic inaction.
Today, we’re taking action to hold these polluters accountable.
ALT DOJ'S PLASTIC BAG MANUFACTURERS INVESTIGATION RESULTS: Lawsuit against 3 plastic bag producers Settlement with 4 plastic bag producers DOJ's investigation showed alleged violations of Senate Bill 270, the Environmental Marketing Claims Act, False Advertising Law, and Unfair Competition Law All alleged violations stem from the unlawful sale of non-recyclable plastic bags in California
ALT LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST: Novolex Holdings LLC, Inteplast Group Corp., and Mettler Packaging LLC DOJ is seeking monetary penalties, disgorgement, and injunctive relief.
ALT SETTLEMENT AGREED WITH: Revolution Sustainable Solutions LLC, Metro Poly Corp, PreZero US Packaging LLC, and Advance Polybag, Inc The companies have agreed to: • Halt plastic bag sales in California • Collectively pay $1,753,000 • Including $1,115,750 in civil penalties and $636,250 in attorneys' fees and costs

As China adopts Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), will the U.S. be next?
VPPs digitally connect assets like EV chargers, smart thermostats, and batteries to support the grid. This provides reliable, clean power at a fraction of the cost of traditional plants.
With grid stress rising from electrification, VPPs are a faster, cleaner, and more scalable solution. The technology exists; we now need fair markets, open standards, and consumer-first models to unlock their potential.
