Today, 13th June 2026, is the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. On the same day in 1917, Our Lady appeared to the children of Fatima for the second time, and she told Lucia de Los Santos: "My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God." Decades ago, I worked for a diocese; then I worked at the Vatican for 15 years; and now I work for @Crux as an editor. I am not a “Catholic professional” – I am a “professional Catholic.” And “mea culpa”, we have too much control over thought in the Church. Most parishioners do not care about Latin Masses, women deacons, or married priests. They are wondering why they have to jump through hoops to get married, have their children baptized, and attend Catholic schools.
