Our statement following the publication of the Grenfell criminal investigation timeline today 💚
ALT A statement from Grenfell United in response to Today’s update from the Metropolitan Police where bereaved families, survivors and residents are being told that files will begin to be passed to the Crown Prosecution Service in September 2026, with charging decisions expected before the tenth anniversary. For our community, this is not news we meet with celebration. We meet it with caution, grief and determination. We have waited almost a decade for accountability. No family should have to wait over 10 years for justice for their loved ones, if it comes at all.

Grenfell United statement: But after waiting nearly 10 years, our community cannot be expected to endure years more of delay. [Gov] must ensure courts are properly resourced so that any prosecutions are heard swiftly. Justice delayed any further would be unacceptable.

Offences being investigated include manslaughter, fraud, misconduct in public office, various health and safety offences.
CPS initially said it would be hard to see trials starting before 2029, but rowed back on that a bit. Conversations already underway...

Grenfell criminal investigation update today:
- Police on track to deliver charging files to CPS by Sept
- CPS hopes to make decisions before 10th anniversary in June 2027. Arrests will follow that if they approve charges
- 57 individuals and 20 orgs under suspiscion

The Remediation Bill is simply too little, too late. It won't make homes safe, protect leaseholders or speed up remediation any time soon.
Labour is still failing to get a grip on the building safety crisis.
