Text reads: So as a lip reader, my top tips are:
Make sure you are in a well lit place, facing the person and not obstructing your mouth.
Speak as you normally would, don't over-pronounce words or exaggerate your mouth movements.
Be patient, repeat as many times as necessary, use written words or even gestures to reinforce what you are saying.
Please never say "oh it doesn't matter!".
Always ASK the person how best to communicate with them. They may be a lip reader, use hearing aids such as a BAHA or CI, they may prefer someone to provide BSL. They will guide you!
Never talk over other people, we can only follow one person at once.

Have you heard of Leigh Syndrome, Kearns- Sayres Syndrome, MELAS, Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON), POLG? If not, go and read up on them - there are many others too!
Even within the different specific diseases, there are variations. For instance, did you know that there are 80 types of Leigh Syndrome? Each of us is unique, with our own mountains to climb.
Please share to show you care about someone with a rare disease!
