🚨🗣️New: Thierry Henry reacts to the Brazil, Morocco, and Netherlands press conferences, where questions in Spanish were reportedly not permitted for Hakimi, Vinícius Jr., and Frenkie de Jong: “I have covered World Cups for years, and this situation makes absolutely no sense to me. You’re telling me a World Cup co-hosted by Mexico can stop journalists from asking questions in Spanish? That’s like hosting a Formula 1 race and banning cars from using their engines. We saw it with Hakimi. We saw it with Vinícius. Now we’re hearing similar stories involving Frenkie de Jong. The players understood the questions. The journalists spoke one of the most widely spoken languages on the planet. Yet somehow the language became the problem. Gianni Infantino talks about inclusion, diversity, and bringing football to everyone. Fine. Then explain this contradiction. How can FIFA celebrate diversity in every promotional video and then create headlines because Spanish journalists are being told to switch languages at a tournament hosted by Mexico? Spanish isn’t some obscure dialect spoken by a handful of people. It’s the language of hundreds of millions across the Americas and beyond. If a journalist from Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, or anywhere else asks a question in Spanish and the player understands it, why is football creating barriers where none existed? The irony is unbelievable. FIFA keeps telling us football belongs to everyone, but this controversy has many fans asking whether some voices are more welcome than others. Maybe there’s a logistical explanation. Maybe it’s a translation issue. But perception matters. And right now the perception is terrible. Because what fans are seeing is simple: a World Cup hosted partly by a Spanish-speaking nation, players who understand Spanish, journalists who speak Spanish, and officials telling them not to use Spanish. If that’s progress, somebody needs to explain it better. Because from the outside, it looks like football’s governing body is tripping over its own message.” “FIFA wanted a celebration of diversity. Instead, they’ve handed the internet a controversy that won’t stop being discussed.”

Cafu on Brazil’s shocking performance against Morocco national football team last night: 🗣️ “I don’t even know where to start because what I watched was not the Brazil I know. This is a team that should be setting the tempo, controlling the game, making Morocco chase shadows but instead, it was the other way around. Morocco didn’t just compete, they dictated. They looked sharper, faster, and more aggressive in every duel. And for me, that is unacceptable when you are wearing the Brazil shirt. People can talk about tactics all they want, but what I saw was attitude. You cannot step onto a World Cup pitch and be second to every ball. That has nothing to do with talent that is desire. The most worrying thing is how passive Brazil looked after going behind. No urgency, no leadership, no one grabbing the game and saying ‘enough.’ That is not a small issue that is a big problem. Morocco deserve credit, yes, but Brazil cannot fall into this pattern of being reactive. Brazil are supposed to impose themselves, not wait for permission to play. If this continues, we are not talking about one bad night anymore we are talking about a team losing its identity. And for Brazil, that is the most dangerous thing that can happen at a World Cup.”

Still convinced Ayyoub Bouaddi and Kobbie Mainoo are actually the same player, same silky dribbling, same calmness in big moments, and he’s just 18yrs. INEOS should be in on him asap

🚨🎙️ Dimitar Berbatov on the Hakimi’s foul on Vinicius Jr: “Listen, I have to be honest — when I saw Hakimi’s challenge on Vinicius Junior tonight, I couldn’t believe what I was watching. The boy was away, dangerous, and Hakimi comes in late with the studs showing, catching him on the ankle. In my playing days, that is a red card. Potential red card, every single time. No question. Of course, I understand the referee. It’s a World Cup opener, big game, exciting match… he doesn’t want to ruin the spectacle with an early sending-off. But that is not the point. Officiating is not about managing the occasion or keeping the game flowing at all costs. It demands you make the correct decision, without bias, without fear, without thinking about the score or the names on the shirts. If it’s a foul, it’s a foul. If it’s a red, you give the red. What is completely unthinkable for me is that it wasn’t even a free-kick. Not even that. Nothing. For football, that is a sad moment.“

🚨🗣️ 𝗡𝗘𝗪: Marcelo on Ancelotti starting Igor Thiago ahead of Matheus Cunha for Brazil against Morocco: “I don’t understand it. Maybe Carlo sees something in training that the rest of us don’t, but if you’re asking me who gives Brazil the better chance of hurting Morocco, it’s Cunha every day of the week.” Cunha has played at the highest level, he’s faced elite defenders week after week, and he gives you unpredictability. With Igor Thiago, I keep hearing about potential, physicality, and work rate. That’s great, but this is Brazil, not a development program.” Morocco are organized, aggressive, and tactically disciplined. This isn’t the type of game where you hand out opportunities because someone had a good spell at club level. If Cunha was left out because he’s not in form, fine. But if he’s sitting on the bench while Brazil struggle to create chances, people will ask questions. And they should. Maybe Igor Thiago proves me wrong tonight, but if Brazil drop points, this decision will be the first thing everyone talks about.” —gqmexico
