I hope every cyclist chasing the dream watched Kristen Faulkner win the gold medal today in the road race. If you haven’t, go watch it.
I believe her story all the way up until this year is one that we all can relate to. She found cycling later in life. She took the path of most resistance to chase what she wanted. She came up short many times. She had opportunities taken away. She was left of selections to races. She even lost things she had earned.
But no matter what she kept going. Kept focused. Kept trying. And most importantly, kept MAKING OPPORTUNITIES.
But today IT DID WORK OUT. And the best part, it worked out exactly the way it should have. This is what she has been doing all along, just now she has it mastered (aka Vuelta stage, National title, now Olympic Gold.)
So keep doing you. Keep grinding. Keep failing. But most importantly know that each time you try hard and come up short you have taken another step closer to your biggest win ever. And just like Kristen, it’s probably bigger than you could ever dream of.
