John Healey has given this country serious service in a serious time. He took on the Ministry of Defence at a moment when the world was getting more dangerous, not less, and he carried that weight with the discipline and decency that the job demands. I worked alongside him closely. I saw the hours, the care, and the seriousness he brought to every brief, including the hardest ones. There are issues facing this Department that do not lend themselves to easy answers. The work on funding, on veterans, on Legacy, on the welfare of those who serve. The threats facing this country have not paused for a change of Secretary of State. Our Armed Forces remain on operations around the world, standing with our allies, protecting our interests, and keeping the British people safe. They deserve a Ministry of Defence that matches their seriousness with our own. That is the job. It continues today.

Honestly I don't know what I'm more pissed off at Burnley for, costing us £40m or Michael Keane . Haven't they punished us enough?

I'm sorry but this is absolutely WILD. "Important witness" was David Baldwin the ex Burnley chief executive but the Premier League independent disciplinary commission were "satisfied that that did not colour his evidence" HOW? Did you give him a full-frontal lobotomy?
Everton 75 years since last relegation, Burnley a perennial yo-yo club. Yet it’s the “lived experience” of the *expert witness to the panel that Burnley would have stayed up. And the independent panel were actually influenced by that! *Expert witness ex Burnley Chief Exec.

The defence secretary, John Healey, after saying the long-awaited defence investment plan (DIP) fell “well short of what is required for defence and the country at this dangerous time”. theguardian.com/politics/202…

Finding it v disappointing that when I'm searching for objectifying listicles of the hottest players at the World Cup, I'm just getting loads of articles about the humid conditions players will face. Game's gone

Everton enraged about order to pay around £35m compensation to Burnley and will fight this finding all the way. Curious, too, how Everton's legal matters keep being determined and resolved before other "higher-profile" cases though Everton say their relations with PL are solid.

So Chelsea secretly pay out £47.5m in brown envelopes to players & agents for 7 years helping them sign players like Hazard and gain sporting advantage while winning multiple trophies.. PUNISHMENT: £10m fine —— Everton meanwhile, slightly breach PSR, overspending by £19.5m over the allowable £105m limit in one period, largely linked to stadium investment & COVID impacts. PUNISHMENT: 10 point deduction followed by a another 2 point deduction both which directly affected their league position and prize money whilst risking being relegated from the Premier League.. AND now have to pay Burnley £40m for alleged lost earnings due to Everton’s “unfair advantage!?” —— One club hid tens of millions in shady payments for years and got a slap on the wrist. The other got hammered with points lost, risked being relegated, costing millions in prize money for league placement and now have to pay compensation to clubs as well!? The disparity in severity, sporting impact and deterrence makes the rules look ridiculous and unfair. “Big” clubs get no consequences for their actions, while Everton are the league’s whipping boy suffering multiple existential hits. Why are Everton treated so differently to every other club in the league!?
Burnley are set to win their legal case against Everton against PSR breaches. Everton are set to pay Burnley circa £40m in damages, the toffees are expected to appeal 🔵

If I follow Nigel Farage's logic - working class blokes are just sexist. Seems a bit of a sweeping claim

My question would be: Do you still have to roller boot around the buckets placed strategically to deal with the leaky roof and is it still the prime copping off location in WN3?
Just finished a three-hour discussion with 50-60 undecided voters covering everything from cost-of-living and immigration to Wigan Roller Rink! People are really engaged in this by-election and it is brilliant to see. Thanks for coming along, everyone. 🙏🏻

There’s so much more I want to say and so much more to come out, this is just the tip of the iceberg as many of you know. David Sullivan has used classic abuser fear and litigation tactics to keep everyone silent from even mentioning his name, and his denial that any of it even happened is blatantly him just continuing to think he can gaslight the nation… I commend all the women that have come forward, the worst the ‘interview’ was for them, the harder it is to even think about it, let alone talk about it I know there are so many more out there, and I appeal to all to reach out to me with no fear of his power anymore For now I just want to wholeheartedly thank EVERYONE for all the support, thanks to all the journalists who have fought with us, as when the police let all the victims down, without the press help and putting serious time and millions of pounds resources into it, we women would have had no chance to speak about this man 🙏 To the real West Ham fans I salute you, with your help and support we can together make a difference for our daughters futures, stop them being groomed into sex work, and stop this pattern of the predator ever happening again To each and everyone of you thank you, those that know me know that I believe in people power and freedom of expression, peace, love, unity and respect, we are one ☝️ There’s much more of this story on what happened when I tried to talk about it on my YouTube and Substack, more to follow (link in bio) Thank you for listening 🙏🙏💪

Another announcement which is curiously not a press conference…
Reform is now the party of workers. Today I am inviting trade unions to apply for affiliation with Reform UK. We also welcome union leaders to attend our national conference in September and engage in discussions about the policies of a future Reform government.

The use of football as politicians' "I'm every bloke, it's all in me" indicator is getting increasingly out of hand
Whatever changes in No 10 race, we’re still gonna be subjected to performative footballing PMs..,, is there anyone in the race who could chat about yoga or ballet or other spare-time pursuit for variety?

Stunned, appalled, shocked etc to see actual tax reform from a politician. This from Wes Streeting today. A thread on why capital gains tax is broken. It's too low AND too high. & why this is a good proposal.

I'm loving this guy talking about the cost of living on the Today Programme, bemoaning teenagers who eat everything like a plague of locusts and are "like animals" when you tell them to turn off lights 😂
