The #BroodX #cicadas seem to love the tall Bradford Pear trees in my neighborhood, but some are MUCH louder than others. Wondering if they choose a spot to gather based on acoustics of the area or something else about the tree itself. #CicadaWatch2021

Maybe this is a M. cassini since it is small and has a black underside and no orange between its eye and wing. Definitely the cutest of the #cicadas I’ve seen for #CicadaWatch2021 😁 #BroodX

It might take a little effort... But if you can learn that in Spanish “ll” (often) sounds like English “y”, “j” sounds like “h”, and “ñ” sounds like “ny”, then you can also learn that in Chinese “zh” is like “j”, “x” is like “sh”, and “q” is like “ch”. (2/8)

Maryland lawmakers look to retract certain protections for law enforcement officers with the repeal of officers' bill of rights. “A repeal...would allow for greater civilian oversight of police departments,” said Del. @gabrielacevero #Marylandpolice cnsmaryland.org/2021/02/08/l…

Confused by the political rhetoric you've heard about the Blueprint for Maryland's future? This is the clearest explanation I've seen anywhere. One quote sums it up: "To not invest more in better educational outcomes is to allow our future to slip away." baltimoresun.com/opinion/edi…

We need to improve education in our state so when the Gov. makes incredibly misleading statements like this Marylanders will have the critical reading/thinking skills to recognize his BS for what it is. Urge your state senator to support the Blueprint!
While we’re working to help Marylanders keep more of their hard-earned money, legislators are working to override our veto of a plan that will cost at least $6,200 in tax hikes for every Maryland family. Contact your senators: bit.ly/MDlegcontact wbaltv.com/article/veto-over…

Schools are now free to ignore the level of infection in the community and open up anyway. “The Science” doesn’t say this is safe. It says it isn’t any more dangerous than other community activities. We’re advised against being indoors with others, but schools are magically safe?

When the school board said they’d follow the metrics from the health dept I was reassured. Now the county has just dropped the use of metrics all together. @DanaforBOE @drake_smob @DelegateBagnall How is this safe given that we expect the U.K. variant to be dominant in March?
Beginning March 22 every school day going forward at least 80% of AACo students will receive virtual instruction from a teacher who will be simultaneously teaching in-person in an environment that many teachers and parents feel is unsafe. @DanaforBOE @DelegateBagnall @drake_smob
.@AACountySchools: ES students to return in hybrid format on March 1; students in all grades back by March 22 aacpsschools.org/pressr/?p=6…

And the studies that are being used to justify in person as safe had small cohorts. AFAIK we don’t have plans for cohorts in AA Co high schools.

And since the recommendation is now med grade mask or double up, will that be enforced in HS where we know 13 yo students are as capable as adults at spreading. Or are they allowed to attend with single layer cloth masks?
I hope the county plans a lot of hybrid training/PD for teachers. Because they don’t know how to do it and it’s gonna be a really rough transition in March. Right at the time that the UK variant becomes dominant so you know a safe/happy time for them to be out in the community.
