Couldn't even do that in Bristol.
Today we launch our campaign for the May elections. Locally and nationally, Labour is cosying up to developers and failing to provide the secure, affordable homes we need. We deserve better. On 7th May vote for council homes, rent controls and an end to leaseholds. Vote Green.

I can’t think of many people more prolific in ‘breaking’ Britain than you. 👮‍♂️Home Office Minister while crime surged? You 🏥Health Minister while hospitals crumbled? You 📉Treasury Minister while growth fell? You 🏠Housing Secretary while homelessness (temp accom) soared? You
Lawlessness is out of control. And Waitrose sack a man for doing the right thing. Britain is broken.

🚨The Government has just announced a new development corporation for Cambridge. Cambridge is one of the most exciting cities in the world but it is held back by a lack of homes, workplaces and infrastructure. 📈The Greater Cambridge development corporation can speed this up and be a HUGE boost for growth and living standards. Here’s why… The Greater Cambridge development corporation will speed up: 🏘️Thousands of new homes. ♻️The regeneration of brownfield sites across Cambridge 👷Thousands of jobs fit for the future 💰Billions in investment 📈Rising living standards for families. How do we know this? 🏃When the London Legacy Development Corporation renewed Stratford for the London 2012 Olympic Games, it successfully enabled the building of 33,000 homes, achieved £12.5 billion in investment, and revitalised the local area. Respond to the consultation here: gov.uk/government/news/new-r… And you can read more about Greater Cambridge here: yimbyalliance.org/greater-ca…

BIG nuclear news: today the Government has released its plans to implement @JohnFingleton1’s landmark nuclear review. The headline: ‘Building our Nuclear Nation’ is very good news for British nuclear, implementing almost all of the transformational recommendations, but not quite everything. The Government has committed to almost every recommendation and outlined a detailed plan to implement them. The Government says it will fix the outdated radiation rules, revise effective ban on SMRs across swathes of the country, set up a nuclear regulatory commission and more! Last year @BritishProgress launched our Nuclear Taskforce Tracker - today is the first HUGE update. nuclear.britishprogress.org/…

You were literally the Housing Secretary. Own it. Take responsibility. And take your vile, despicable, self-serving politics with you.
The two old parties made housing unaffordable. Reform is now the home for aspirational young people. Simon has the real world experience to break the cycle of broken promises.
Community note
Robert Jenrick was the Housing Secretary for more than two years in the previous Conservative government. gov.uk/government/peo…

It would be funny if rules like this weren't blocking so many homes... Great, albeit infuriating, piece from @Michael_J_Hil @BritainRemade
This is eye-opening. I knew the planning system was broken, but it is worse than even I thought. When I heard that planners had recommended Hackney councillors block the extremely popular Shoreditch Works development I asked @Michael_J_Hil to read the planners' report and look through hundreds of documents submitted by the developer. It is really bad. - Developers submitted NINE THOUSAND PAGES of paperwork, planners said it wasn't detailed enough. - Planners said it should be rejected because some flats would lack enough natural light due to shadows cast by other parts of the development. - Planners simultaneously argued there weren't enough homes, didn't provide enough office space, and it was too tall. - Developers had to comply with 42 separate Hackney policies, 75 separate London Plan policies, the Hackney Borough Site Allocations Plan, five other separate sets of standards and policy frameworks, two sets of ‘emerging’ unfinalised policies, plus all relevant national legislation and guidance. - The design review panel criticised the project because every building was of the same architectural style. Planners ignored the surveys showing huge public support for the designs. - New homes must provide outdoor space so residents have access to a green roof, but planners said that might disturb nature. (This is on an exclusively brownfield site) Councillors have an opportunity tonight to overrule the planners. I sincerely hope they do! samdumitriu.com/p/anatomy-of…
