> You're at least 200x more likely to die in a helicopter than a commercial jet Okay, so still around 10x than driving? That seems very reasonable lmao, commercial aviation is so absurdly safe it’s safer than your living room
Helicopters are a fundamentally flawed design The moment you even slightly hit or lose the tail rotor the whole thing spins out of control and it's a flying coffin You're at least 200x more likely to die in a helicopter than a commercial jet I don't go in them and I think they should be replaced by multirotor drone type vehicles which are much much safer

Not sure if anyone else has noticed but during the month of May the CTA added around 3.75 miles of net slow zones

am i going to be in san francisco on the fucking vibecamp weekend i am, arent i
Jun 13
still on the fence about vibecamp. at this point the main issue is i’m nervous i won’t be able to physically handle the logistics. i haven’t flown in 3 years. my diet remains very annoyingly restrictive in a way that makes it hard to be confident i’ll be able to get enough to eat in unfamiliar places (this is a large part of why i haven’t flown in 3 years). i always sleep like complete shit at vibecamp and i’m way more sensitive to sleep deprivation than i used to be on the other hand i’ve been isolated from nearly all social contact for way too long. i need to be around people i can talk to. and things are moving so fast now that god knows what anything will be like a year from now. i feel like i need to be plugged into the network in a way i can’t get online idk how to weigh these at all. help?

When I travelled to Houston from Chicago 2 years ago and then travelled across the city on mass transit, I noticed 2 things: 1) how much safer I felt on Houston Metro vs the CTA 2) how nonwhite Houston Metro’s ridership was So, uh, respectfully, swing and a miss there

Some (not all) of the anxiety about transit crime that I see on Twitter makes sense to me, but some reflects lack of experience with navigating urban space. And some people “feel unsafe” around Black people or people speaking other languages … 3/

But meaningfully, I suspect that the people who are complaining about “crime” are actually just complaining about bad behavior. Hence the recent discourse shift towards “public order”, because crime statistics clearly don’t refer to the things people are complaining about

But like, there are solutions to this, even if in the short term they cause delays to service (just stopping and calling the police on people, just as a business would) and I think most people would prefer that.

Like so many other things in this administration, I am very aware that this is very bad for the economy, a catastrophic precedent, etc etc, but having hit several “safety” blocks on literally the most innocuous prompts ever to be asked I have literally no object level sympathy
As a result of a US government directive, we are suspending access to Claude Fable 5 for all users. You can continue to use all other Claude models. Here’s what this means for you: Across Claude products, new sessions will run on your selected default model or Opus 4.8, and existing Fable 5 sessions will end with an error. On the Claude Platform, requests to Fable 5 will also return an error. Please update your integrations to other Claude models. We know this is a disruption to your workflows; we appreciate your patience and support.

Every time I see one of these I can’t help but think this case should have been made at any point in time before people got mad enough at their governance to hire “Institution Wreckers, Inc”. *Now*, the thing to do is point to the falling outputs of the research to catastrophize
This is the true legacy of DOGE - the utter decimation of medical research. MAGA idiots will try to tell you this is just cutting DEI programs. Keep in mind DOGE was filled with such idiots they killed physics grants that mentioned 'polarization' (of light) because of "DEI".
