It's just over a year since I attended a lovely wedding at my sister's place her for her oldest. Was a fun filled weekend reuniting with family. Niece is now a solo mother to a gorgeous boy. Dad decided he couldn't cope and left her while she still at starship after

A traumatic birth. This week they are back at Starship waiting confirmation of a possible diagnosis of dystonic cerebral palsy. Baby is a blessing and shows what a strong Mama he has. She has amazing support from both her parents. Life doesn't always follow the intended plan

33 yrs in public libraries the last 20 odd years developing collections I have had challenge discussions with many including family about what's appropriate. It offends me that picture books generally read to kids by an adult need to hit them in the face as possibly nt palatable

or aligned with their experience of family ie gender, race etc. It feels like we are becoming more conservative protecting the hetro image. If it offends, don't read it. I reserve the right to continue this rant. I'm not done why can't we accept everyone is different n adds value
