“You can tell a lot about someone by the way they look at animals. Animals can tell a lot about you, too. And trust me, we are paying attention.” -Edna

It seems like an easy question to answer, if you just think about the animals. @tallyspear is an amazing vegan singer!! The second song is called Imposters!

Um… Jenna we need to have a talk. What cow devilery have you been doing out in the woods. This is not how we practice being a good big sister. Always interesting to stumble on a baby foot in the woods at night.

The birds were struggling with the heat today. Even with fans running, cool treats, fresh water, and every bit of shade we can provide, there comes a point where the Virginia summer becomes miserable for chickens and turkeys. On the hottest days, you’ll see them standing with their mouths open trying to cool themselves. Some will even climb into their water dishes and stand there, searching for any relief they can find from the heat. As Quincy gets older, we worry about him more each summer. The heat takes a bigger toll on his aging body, and what he once handled with ease is becoming more difficult. That’s why we’re hoping to add a mini-split air conditioner to the chicken and turkey barn before the worst of summer arrives. The window one we have has made a tremendous difference but they are not meant to survive the dust from bedding, and it cannot keep up with the extreme heat . We want Quincy and his family to do more than simply endure the summer. We want them to be comfortable. If you’d like to help us give them that relief, we’d be incredibly grateful. Thank you for helping us care for animals who have already been through so much and finally have a place where they are loved and protected. ❤️ Support Our Sanctuary at give-usa.keela.co/x-donation…

☀️ 🚨 We’re worried about our animals in the heat today and coming up. ☀️ The heat index is expected to reach 109°, and days like this can be dangerous for many of the rescued animals at Life With Pigs. Mallory and I will spend the day making sure everyone is comfortable, refilling water, running fans, providing extra shade, and making sure Jenna, Maisie, Annie, Huck, Bonnie, Pumpkin, Charlotte, Sam, and so many others stay as comfortable as possible. One thing we desperately need is an additional air conditioner for our chicken and turkey barn. The current one installed is dying and losing the ability to cool. And with this heat, keeping them cool during the day and night is key to comfort and their health! If you’d like to help, we’d be incredibly grateful for support toward keeping everyone cool! Thank you for helping us keep them safe. ❤️ Support Our Sanctuary at give-usa.keela.co/x-donation…

Sadly, cows on dairy farms live horrible lives of abuse and suffering. And the minute you are unprofitable, you no longer get to be around. There are no happy endings or even beginnings or middles on farms.

Our big baby Sherman still loves his family. He grew up inside after being rescued at a few days old and still sees our armpits as the perfect place to hide his head for a nap. And as long as we wear no red clothing, he is so connect to be overly loved by us. As for why his chest feathers are missing, it is quite likely most have been resulting from his incessant need to do parkour results in them being bent and broken. He hasn’t seen an object in his life that didn’t need to be tripped over. We are at the very tail end of our building projects and could definitely use donations to at the final pieces or roofing to protect our hay from intense rains, the corner wood to protect the new barn, and some remaining wood to finalize things. So please considering donating to finish off this spring’s big push to get things ready around here as we prepare for summer and the fall arrival of little Gwen the human addition to the sanctuary. My beautiful and pregnant wife might need to open a kissing booth! She walks outside and all the cute boys in the yard want a kiss (including me).

Mallory is finally starting to feel a little better! Her first trimester of pregnancy has been so rough on her. But little by little she is starting to regain some of her energy and is hoping to have a better go at the second trimester. One thing is clear, Annie and Huckleberry were both glad to have her outside!

We have so much to learn from animals about how to get along with those different than us.

A few months ago I took a pretty hard fall and injured my knee. For a while I couldn't fully bend it without pain, and it's been a slow road back. This week is the first week I've finally been able to bend it all the way again, which feels like a huge victory! Because of that, I haven't been able to film a new TuneTastic Tuesday lately, but the good news is that next week I'll be back with a brand-new episode, most likely featuring Jenna and a song just for her. Until then, I wanted to share a favorite throwback moment: me singing "Love of a Lifetime" by FireHouse to Jenna. It seemed fitting, because if you've ever met Jenna, you know she takes her job of being loved very seriously. I hope you enjoy this little trip down memory lane, and I'll see you next week with a new TuneTastic Tuesday!
