Co-organising this lecture in memory of Paddy Hill of the Birmingham Six at @EdinburghNapier in collaboration with MOJO, the miscarriage of justice charity Paddy founded. We're delighted to confirm his lawyer Gareth Peirce, and Matt Foot, Co-Director of Appeal, as speakers.
Paddy Hill suffered one of the worst miscarriages of justice in British history. His tenacity and generosity has helped countless others who have experienced a miscarriage of justice. Rest in power, Paddy. #miscarriageofjustice#birminghamsixbbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj90…

If an innocent person IS exonerated, they more than likely will not receive any compensation for their ordeal. Even if they do, their lives are often irreparably damaged, and they themselves are changed forever.
The burden of proof on an innocent but convicted person to overturn their conviction is enormous - far beyond that required to convict them. Most will never clear their name and remain guilty in the eyes of the law (and public) for the rest of their lives.
