The Hannah Parr left Limerick for Canada. The Norwegian passengers of the ship stayed in Limerick after the ship was damaged in a storm and needed repair. Three children died while in Limerick & are buried in St Munchin’s churchyard.

Elton John performed in Thomond Park on this day 6 June 2009. He previously played at the Stella ballroom in 1968 as a member of Bluesology backing Long John Baldry.
Philip Roche died on this day 4 June 1797, "one of the most extensive merchants in the kingdom". He was responsible for the erection of the Granary building on what is now Michael Street.
On this day 24 May 1876 the following notice was posted in Bassett’s Chronicle announcing the opening of a roller skating rink in Limerick.

On this day 19 May 1832, the antiquarian and writer Standish Hayes O’Grady was born in Castleconnell, Co. Limerick. Although qualified as a civil engineer, he is best remembered for Silva Gadelica, a collection of tales from medieval Irish manuscripts.

Today in 1642 Irish Confederate troops, commanded by Sir Garret Barry, besieged King John's Castle for 5 weeks until the English Protestant garrison surrendered on the 23rd of June. This was part of the Irish Confederate Wars, also called the Eleven Years’ War.
Cpt Edmond John Landers was born in the village of Oola, County Limerick on 7 July 1937. He emigrated to the U.S. in May 1957 and was drafted into military service a year later. Cpt Landers was killed in action in Vietnam on this day May 15th 1968 and is buried in Oola Cemetery.
#OTD in 1921.. Winifred Barrington, the 23-year-old daughter of Charles Barrington (Glenstal) was accidentally shot and killed, a few miles from her home, during the "Coolboreen Ambush". She was buried in Abington, Co. Limerick.
