Statements like “girls are as good as boys at math” can carry implications that boys are better. However, an “equal” gesture—two palms placed at the same height—can counteract this implication for 8- to 11-year-old children. In PNAS: ow.ly/AYSb50ULRYT

New paper alert! 🥳 We study intersectional stereotypes in naturalistic language. Results show the clear dominance of some groups (e.g., White men), but near-invisibility of others. 🧐 Out today in PNAS:Nexus @PNASNews academic.oup.com/pnasnexus/a…

👉New paper on early structural reasoning is out! We tested two methods to increase children's recognition of structural constraints against girls in STEM. Showing that more girls would have participated in STEM without constraints reduces children's biases against girls.

Children's pain judgments also lead them to help the less wealthy: children who perceived the poor as suffering more pain were also more likely to give a bandaid or an icepack to them.
