Today we remember English McConnell who passed away on 13th June 1928 aged just 45. English played for Linfield at the tail end of a great footballing career and helped the Blues capture the 1913-14 Irish League title. 1/2

2/2 He also won 12 Ireland caps and had the honour of captaining his country. English McConnell is buried in McGarel Cemetery in Larne. ❤️🤍💙

Today we remember Tom Gordon who passed away on 12th June 1916 Tom played in Linfield's first ever game way back in 1886. For the 1st few matches Tom played up front but very soon went into goals. It was as a goalkeeper that Tom excelled and was a mainstay for the Blues... 1/3

2/3 ...for over 10 years. It was during this period that Linfield lifted their 1st four Irish League titles and Irish Cups 🏆 Also an Irish International, Tom became the first goalkeeper to score a goal!

3/3 Tom was part of the famous Linfield Gordon family. His brothers Willie & Hugh also played for Ireland. Tom Gordon is buried in Dundonald Cemetery (Plot B3/489) ❤️🤍💙

Today we remember Nathaniel 'Thanny' McKeown who passed away on 11th June 1924. Thanny played throughout the first 10 years of Linfield (1886 - 1896) He played in the team which won the club's first 3 Irish League titles and also the first 3 Irish Cup victories 🏆 1/3

2/3 Nathaniel scored in the 1893 Irish Cup Final - a 5-1 win over Cliftonville. He also played for Ireland as well as the Irish League representative team. His 2 brothers also played their part in the formation of Linfield Football Club.

Today we remember Robert Pinkerton who passed away on 9th June 1942 Robert played mostly for Linfield Swifts and captained the Ireland Junior International team In 1898/99 the Swifts won the Steel & Sons Cup & the Intermediate Cup. In the County Antrim Shield 1/4 Final.. 1/4

3/4 ....1-0 down with 20mins to go. 3 quick Linfield goals didn't go down well with the Dublin crowd and the match was abandoned 3 mins from time!) Sadly Robert Pinkerton is not mentioned on his grave. The CWGC have a headstone....

4/4 ....for a friend of Roberts - Flight Sergeant Thomas Dickie. Thomas was killed on Active Service in 1943. He was only 22 years of age. 😢 Both Robert Pinkerton & Thomas Dickie are buried in Knockbreda Cemetery. Plot K/198 ❤️🤍💙

Today we remember Tommy Sloan who passed away on 2nd June 1973. Tommy captained Linfield from 1929-1932 winning numerous honours including the League & Cup double in 1930. At Cardiff City, Tommy won the 1927 FA Cup and was also an Irish International. He played.... 1/2

2/2 ..in a couple of very famous Ireland wins - the victory over England in 1927 (the last home win over England until a certain David Healy goal in 2005) & the 1930 victory over Wales (with Joe Bambrick scoring 6) Tommy Sloan is buried in Seagoe Cemetery ❤️🤍💙

Today we remember Harry Baird who passed away on 19th May 1973. Harry played for Linfield between 1933 & 1943 winning every honour available. In 1936 Harry scored 4 in the Gold Cup final and then scored again in the Irish Cup Final. On both occasions Derry City..... 1/3

2/3 ....were the opponents. In around 250 appearances for the Blues Harry found the net around 125 times. For two seasons in between (37-39) he played for Manchester United. After the war Harry then played 6 seasons for Ipswich Town.

3/3 Yet again, Harry is lying in an unmarked grave (Roselawn Cemetery, Plot U2604). **. (The headstone in the photo is from the grave behind Harry's) So sad for a Linfield & Ireland legend 😢 ❤️🤍💙

Today we remember Tom Watson who passed away on 13th May 1978 Tom, who was also an Irish International, played for Linfield in the Irish League & Irish Cup double season of 1929/1930. Lifting the 1930 Irish Cup (with a 4-3 win over Ballymena in the 'Joe Bambrick Final').... 1/2

2/2 ..Tom completed his treble set of British Cup successes. With Cardiff he had already won the FA Cup and the Welsh Cup. His team mate in all 3 victories was Tommy Sloan who also came to the Blues from Cardiff Tom Watson is buried in Carnmoney East Cemetery (Plot U38) ❤️🤍💙

Today we remember Sam Torrans who passed away on 8th May 1948 Sam is one of the all-time Linfield greats and played in the clubs very first match in 1886. Sam was ever-present until 1904. During that period the Blues lifted their first 32 trophies including 7 Irish League.. 1/3

2/3 ..titles & 8 Irish Cups! 🏆 Sam also won 26 caps for Ireland ☘️ For over 77 years Sam Torrans has lay in a totally unmarked grave in the City Cemetery 😢. Thankfully, through supporters efforts with badge purchases etc., this will not be the case going forward 👏👏
