I consider
@VDHanson one of the greatest philosophical, political, and historical thinkers of our time, and I’m not alone. In this particular interview, he explains how the dots of strategic decisions and associated outcomes connect over the last 30 years or so, making it understandable to average American adults, without condescension or dumbing it down. Applying his knowledge of history, human behavior, different schools of philosophical thought, and keen observations, he also extrapolates into what he expects to see from a new Congress, and second term of President Trump.
If you are trying to understand why a majority of the active electorate voted for Trump a couple of weeks ago, including numerous people that did NOT vote for him in previous elections, and/or you are worried about your personal safety or the safety of your loved ones, and our country, please watch or listen to this video.
I don’t expect this interview to change your political affiliations, or any strongly held fundamental guiding principles associated with fiscal, domestic, or international policy and governance. My hope is that people opposed to President-elect Trump, can come to better understand the logical connections people like me have made, between our fundamental guiding principles to our ultimate choice of candidate.
I believe honest and fair assessments show that the bulk of voting Americans share many fundamental, noble values. I believe that our visions of how our society and government would look in a “perfect world” are very similar. In regard to those logical connections, if we step away from the shrill and urgent voices coming from all sides, I believe we take several steps aligned with one another on many issues, and only diverge as we approach specific policy.
I believe this because I lived it. Prior to the 2016 election, I was well engaged in politics for more than a decade, and what I just described was the norm. I worked on several projects, mostly in the realm of energy policy, with many people that became good friends. Along a political continuum for which the fringes of both left and right are chopped off, these friends and colleagues landed in different spots of left, right, and center, in what what was overall a pretty well-balanced representation.
I ache for a return to such an atmosphere.
