The spelling bee was a special day in the one-room Kissel Hill School when this undated photograph was taken. This was a chance for the teachers to show off their best spellers in front of the parents and friends of the students and provided a social event for the area.
Once located at the intersection of West Woods Drive and Route 501 (just south of downtown Lititz) was Jerry Hertzler’s gas station, which provided customers with roadside essentials, snacks, fuel, newspapers, coffee, and penny candy.
Did you know…in June, 1937, members of the Lititz Sportsmen Association built this fountain in Lititz Springs Park. It replaced the bubblers and troughs which were once located at the headend at the springs.
In 1957 this telegram arrived to Lititz from Los Angeles. It was from Lititz native Bob Longenecker, who held a career in Hollywood as a talent agent and radio executive. Longenecker was married to Hollywood star Ruth Hussey.
Remember when?...In 1989, this roof from a tobacco shed blew onto Pierson Road in Warwick Township due to heavy winds that day. Thankfully, nobody was injured during the incident.
