Just got on a train (with assistance) with @ziggy_guidedog Man across the aisle turns to me and says ‘excuse me, I’m sat opposite you. Please let me know if you need anything while you’re on the train’. How lovely!

Following on from my earlier post about a lady being rude to me because she ‘didn’t know if I was blind or not’, today my 4 year old told a grown adult off for distracting @ziggy_guidedog while she was working. If a 4 year old gets it, I’m not sure why an adult can’t!

Lady in shop: I suppose I can’t touch her (@ziggy_guidedog ) Me: No… Lady (interrupting before I could explain ): Well you’re rude. Lady walking off: I didn’t know if she was blind or not This is not ok! There is a huge sign on Ziggy’s fluorescent yellow harness 1/2

2/2 telling people not to disturb her when she is working. Secondly, hidden disabilities are a thing. Thirdly, it doesn’t matter if @guidedogs are working or training, you DON’T disturb them or any other assistance dog. Fourthly, don’t call me rude because you interrupted me!

Hey everyone. In December, I’m putting on a concert for the amazing charity @guidedogs and have a crowdfunding page to raise money for the costs of the concert. Any donations or RTs will be gratefully received crowdfunder.co.uk/p/christma…

Here’s the process for getting assistance on UK trains. You show up at the station and ask for assistance. Staff assist you to the platform and train, and check your journey details like connection and destination. They then contact those stations so there will be someone there.

A cyclist has just passed me while walking in the park while @ziggy_guidedog has a free run. Seeing my white cane, the cyclist rang his bell to let me know he was approaching and then said ‘I am about to pass you on your righthand side’. Simple, but SO appreciated!

Security guard came marching up to me and & @ziggy_guidedog at a bar last night. I braced myself for a ‘no dogs allowed’ or similar and got ‘let me know if I can help you with anything’! Sad that my experiences make me assume negativity, but a great interaction!

Sorry, but ‘Haha, my dog can’t read!’ (Pointing to @ziggy_guidedog harness which says ‘Please don’t distract me’) is not a valid excuse to let your dog disturb my working guide dog!

I’m a visually impaired mum to a 3.5 yo. I have good central vision. She banged her head at the park yesterday. Hubby was away on Navy duty & we were with friends. Called @NHSuk 111 who advised she needs to be seen. I say that I am @guidedogs user & hubby is away. 1/3

I’m then asked how I think I’m going to get my child seen. Really? ‘Well, I suppose we’ll have to get someone to you’ is what I’m then told. Another dr then calls me & asks things like, if I’m blind, how do I know what happened & how do I know how my daughter is! 2/3

I know what happened. I was there & I know when my daughter isn’t ok. I am shocked by the attitude & pre judging towards my disability by medical professionals. We ended up at @RUHBath where the staff were brilliant & she is now ok. Sort out this attitude NHS! @RNIB 3/3

Thanks mum!
Happy 7th birthday to my amazing Guide Dog, Ziggy, and all her amazing siblings! I’m so lucky to have this life changer by my side, keeping me out of harms way. Hopefully she will continue to do so for a few more years to come.

Guide Dog Ziggy (@ziggy_guidedog) has returned home after surgery to remove cysts on her eyes. She’s dozy, but it’s gone as well as it could have and if her recovery goes to plan, she’ll be back working in a week or two. Positive vibes, please!
