Watamu’s having a good nesting year so far. This Green Mama came up in the early hours of the morning - pretty late for our sea turtles as they normally go back to the ocean under the cover of darkness. Our KWS Asst Warden and our St. Lawrence University interns joined our vigil.

We can not shout out enough about the importance of a natural riparian areas. This is where sea turtles need to nest.. above the high water mark so their nests are safe from drowning.

Another gentle dawn, another gentle big Mama came up to nest this week.
This grand old lady will have travelled thousands of miles from her foraging grounds to come back to the beach of her birth to nest at Watamu. How incredible a feat is that?

An empty beach and natural belt behind, void of lights and noise. This precious place makes it possible for the next generation of sea turtles to have a chance of survival. It also gives us humans more pleasure and protection than we can imagine.

This small snippet of unspoilt coastline, is one of the few viable nesting beaches and coastline, left within our Marine Protected Area and the Watamu area. A place where turtles can nest and feel secure.

We have to make absolutely certain that viable places for our Turtle Mama’s to nest within our #MarinePark, increase rather than decrease! This also means there will be more beautiful instagrammable, unspoiled beaches for visitors to boast about being on and to enjoy!
