IMPRESSIONS:
Their first glasspad introduction to the glass market was the Harut. It provided a smooth, controlled surface to help those transferring from cloth have an easier time in controlling their aim. The Odyssey is a faster iteration of a balanced glide. Basyl, the co-owner of LockOn, spoke to me about wanting to provide a little more freedom to those wanting more speed but just enough that it doesn’t stray too far from the balance of control and speed.
The Odyssey’s micro-etched surface provides a fantastic glide - a mix of speed but textured enough for just the right amount of stopping power. Typically I enjoy a faster glide but the slower speed of the Odyssey dialed me down to focus my aim a little more. I wouldn’t say it was troubling for me to hit my mark with a speedy pad like the Sayo or Zane, but it has definitely helped me with overshooting my aim. It’s certainly a great segway to the glass pad world for those wanting to expand their horizons from just cloth pads. The textured surface provides the tactility and feedback without giving me any skin stick or being abrasive enough that warrants a need to use a sleeve. The surface and the glide was, and still is, consistent across the board! There weren’t any spots that felt “slower” during my time of use. A completely uniform and consistent experience. The rounded, beveled edges definitely help with comfort during longer gaming sessions. I didn’t feel any unwanted pressure in my forearm when pressing down and resting my arm.
I mainly played Tarkov Arenas during my time testing so there was a good mix of tracking and tactical shooting. The Odyssey did a great job in giving me the freedom to track enemies but also enough stopping power for flicks. I played some Apex just to test out the tracking as well, which yielded pretty decent results. I hadn’t played Apex in a couple of months so I was a little rusty but after a couple minutes of testing, I was managing tracking with the Odyssey fairly easily.
Overall, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Odyssey! It’s a great contender for those wanting to experience glass coming off of cloth but want that extra boost of speed. There are a bunch of companies out releasing glasspads that cater to the general public but LockOn has done such a phenomenal job with their last two glass iterations. It makes me super excited to see what else they could pull off! Perhaps their next one could be super speedy or perhaps a heavily controlled surface! Time will only tell!
