DAYS UNTIL KICKOFF — OPPONENT #83: THE UCF KNIGHTS! We’re cruising through the complete lineup of all 137 Texas foes on the gridiron, and today we land on the Knights (they were transitioning from the Golden Knights at the time)! The Longhorns and Knights have met twice, and the two games couldn’t have been more different. In 2007, Texas traveled to Orlando for what turned into a wild, back-and-forth thriller and had to hang on for a 35-32 victory. Texas was the inaugural opponent for the UCF Knights in their new stadium. Then in 2009, the Knights came to Austin and got absolutely handled — the Longhorns dominated from start to finish in a 35-3 blowout that was never really in doubt. Colt McCoy passed for 470 yards and Jordan Shipley set the school receiving record with 273 yards Two very different nights, but two wins for the good guys! Another fun chapter from the archives Colt McCoy passes to Jordan Shipley for an 88 yard TD

DAYS UNTIL KICKOFF — OPPONENT #84: THE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY BEARS! We’re cruising through the complete lineup of all 137 Texas foes on the gridiron, and today we land on the Bears! The Longhorns squared off with the Washington University Bears (St. Louis) twice in the early 1900s. In 1904, Texas headed to St. Louis (playing at the World’s Fair Stadium during the St. Louis World's Fair) and blanked the Bears 23-0 in a clean shutout. Two years later in 1906, the Bears made the trip to Austin and the Horns handled business again in the pouring rain, winning 17-6 at Clark Field. Back-to-back wins against the same opponent in the early days of Texas football — classic old-school dominance! Another wild blast from the archives! The 1906 team

DAYS UNTIL KICKOFF — OPPONENT #85: THE ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS! We’re cruising through the complete lineup of all 137 Texas foes on the gridiron, and today we land on the Sun Devils! The Longhorns and Sun Devils have squared off twice in bowl games — and both were absolute thrill rides with completely different vibes. Back in the 2007 Holiday Bowl in San Diego, Texas came out firing on all cylinders. The Horns dropped a record-setting first quarter on Arizona State and never looked back, cruising to a dominant 52-34 victory behind a high-powered offense that lit up the scoreboard all night. Fast-forward to the 2025 Peach Bowl (a College Football Playoff Quarterfinal in Atlanta), and it was an absolute rollercoaster. Texas jumped out to a big lead, only to watch Arizona State battle all the way back and force double overtime. In classic Longhorn fashion, the Horns found a way — with clutch plays, a huge 4th-down conversion, and a game-sealing interception — to survive the thriller and win 39-31. Two very different bowl battles, but two wins for the good guys! Another wild chapter from the more recent archives . Andrew Mukuba grabs a game-winning interception in double overtime in the Peach Bowl:

DAYS UNTIL KICKOFF — OPPONENT #86: THE PURDUE BOILERMAKERS! We’re cruising through the complete lineup of all 137 Texas foes on the gridiron, and today we land on the Boilermakers! The Longhorns and Boilermakers went toe-to-toe in a fun back-to-back home-and-home series in 1950 and 1951. In 1950 at Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas survived a wild shootout and came away with a thrilling 34-26 victory. The Horns leaned on a punishing rushing attack (led by Byron Townsend’s 158 yards) while Gib Dawson was a total menace with multiple touchdowns. Texas overcame some self-inflicted fumbles and still pulled out the W in front of 40,000 fans. The very next year, Texas traveled to Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette and flipped the script completely — delivering a stone-cold 14-0 shutout. Gib Dawson struck again with a pair of short touchdown runs, and the Longhorn defense completely shut down Purdue’s offense while forcing a bunch of turnovers. Two very different games, but two straight wins for the good guys! Another classic early-’50s chapter from the archives

DAYS UNTIL KICKOFF — OPPONENT #87: THE DALLAS F.C.! We’re cruising through the complete lineup of all 137 Texas foes on the gridiron, and today we land on the Dallas F.C.! This squad holds a special place in Longhorn history — they were the very first team Texas ever played… and the very first team we ever beat! In 1893 the Longhorns pulled off a massive upset, knocking off the heavily favored Dallas Athletic Club 18-16. Dallas F.C. had been considered the best team in the entire state, and no one had ever scored on them before Texas put up 18 points that day. Just to make sure there was zero doubt, the same two teams ran it back in February 1894 — and Texas shut them out 16-0 for the clean sweep. A true origin-story moment that helped spark the entire Texas football program! Another wild blast from the very first pages of Longhorn lore!
