For a highly supportive community only giving gentle claps as a send off, there is a fair bit of sass from the lightning talk host @TheEllisPatrick#abacbs24
A delight to talk about the not-as-silly-as-they-sound emoji bioinformatics tools FASTQE and Biomojify at #AGTA24
Education is a pillar of research, and education thrives on engagement.
Contributions and examples of use in the wild always welcome!

I am currently recruiting a computational postdoc in my lab at CU dashnowlab.org/
The candidate would develop and use computational genomics methods to understand the genetic underpinnings of rare diseases and increase diagnoses.
Pay starts at $70k for recent PhD grads
Two weeks left to submit an abstract to Cancer Bioinformatics Australia.
After VCBS in person 2019, 2020 and 2021 online, and 2022 as part of ABACBS, this successor symposium has a real 'getting the band back together' vibe.
Register and submit now!
The worst thing about social media fragmentation is that it is too hard to do #conferenceBingo at #ABACBS23 and #COMBINE23 .... and there have been so so many Manhattan plots.
Breaking my Ecks retirement to say, yet again, that the inclusion of the best talk winner from COMBINE is a great great tradition of #ABACBS23 and #COMBINE23

Super Mario Bio is back for more #ScienceWeek adventures in 2023! This time it's back to basics with how pre-mRNA becomes mRNA.
A platform at the donor site allows Mario to skip to the acceptor site and only collect coins from the exon regions.

Like everything in biology, there are exceptions! One example of alternative splicing is intron retention, where the intron sequence is included in the mRNA. In this example, Mario ignores the platform and gets those extra coins! #ScienceWeekyoutu.be/qgkmf7_MjZY

Happy National Science Week!
I hope these continue to be a fun way to introduce these concepts, and I'll crosspost to other platforms. Until next year...
