Really happy to finally share that I have been awarded a #NHMRC EL1 Investigator Award to look at #plasmid and #AMR movement in Australia using genomics 🥳
Our state meeting #MiM2025 is almost here for great day with all things #microbiology
Held at @usceduau Petrie campus on the 8th Feb 2025
📢1 more day to submit your abstract linkedin.com/company/austral…
and do not forget to register 👇👇👇
Three days left to abstract submission! The Willie Phage-tail spends most of its time chasing phages, which it believes is a more worthwhile endeavour than chasing insects. We agree, and if you do too you’ll probably want to register an abstract at MGEAUS.org
Four days to abstract submission close! One of the most iconic birds, the CoCkAT(N)oo is extremely long lived, having been reported to spend up to 100 years researching MGEs! We’re taking all abstract submissions (doesn’t have to be a century’s worth) at MGEAUS.org
7 days left to abstract submission close! Today (by its insistence) we are joined by the noisy data miner! Unlike most bioinformaticians, it’s a little bit more aggressive and will scold you until you register an abstract at MGEAUS.org
8 days left to our abstract submission deadline! Today we have Plover joining us! Did you know he legally changed his name to showcase his love for Plasmids? Come join him at the MGE AUS meeting by submitting your abstract at MGEAUS.org
Only 9 days till abstract submission closes! As an Aussie-focused meeting, we’ve recruited some iconic birds to help promote (not spread!) MGEs 🐦, starting with our MGE MaGpiE! He’ll be swooping into the MGE meeting!
Register at MGEAUS.org today!

Don't miss out, please retweet!
I'm going to be advertising a PhD studentship (open to international students) working on long read pangenome / assembly algorithms in bacteria. Would suit someone with maths/compsci background. Aptitude and interest more important than experience. Advert to follow. Pls RT!
Daria Frolova's paper in plasmid relatedness now out in MGen! She uses rearrangement distances & shared seq content to build a relatedness network of plasmids, identifies hubs which are likely transposons, and then clusters related plasmids.

First paper from my student Daria Frolova's PhD now on biorxiv:

The key question: plasmids change structurally ~as fast as they mutate, so how can we decide whether 2 plasmids are "the same plasmid" for epi purposes?
