ALT A seven-panel comic of the name carving scene between Kirk Spock and Mariner Boimler. In the first panel Spock says to Kirk, "I fail to see the logic in defiling a perfectly good table." Kirk responds, smiling at Spock, "It's an old human custom." We cut to a couple hundred years in the future where Beckett Mariner is carving her and Boimler's name next to Kirk and Spock's names. The caption reads "Two people will carve their names into a tree or a bridge or some sort of wood as a gesture of love." The caption reads, "Love, friendship, romance." In the fifth panel, the two ensigns are sitting together looking happily at their carved names next to Kirk and Spock's. "The carving would signify their lasting affection. Someone could come along years later, and even though those two people may be long gone, a mark of their love would still exist." Lastly, it's the 2260s again. Spock says "Quite a romantic concept." Kirk says, "Indulge me, Mr. Spock."
