I think the white eyes can work if they don't glow and actually makes him look "lifeless".
But it does not work very well in a very dark and realistic version of the character like the Matt Reeves version anyways, it can work, but not as a LED and not in a very serious version.

Folks are learning that the more realistic and 3D a character looks, the dumber white eyes look.
This is why hyper-realistic artists like Alex Ross and Lee Bermejo draw the eyes (and Neal Adams would draw eyes in close-ups)

also, they should be contact lenses and not a part of the mask, that way you can keep at least a little bit of the actor's expressions.
