Back in 2017 on this app it was sometime in June when the first eyebrow cobbing happened and I didn't begin in but somehow 2017 was the Summer of the Cobbening and now I'm gonna pretend it started June 11th to add to the lore 😂
Today, Thursday, June 11, 2026 is Corn on the Cob Day
Corn, or maize, was first domesticated in southern Mexico over 9,000 years ago from the wild grass teosinte and has since become a globally significant crop.
Corn (Zea mays) originated in Mesoamerica, specifically in present-day southern Mexico, where indigenous peoples began domesticating the wild grass teosinte around 9,000 years ago. Early farmers selectively bred teosinte for desirable traits such as larger, sweeter kernels and upright stalks, gradually transforming it into the recognizable corn we know today. Archaeological evidence, including ancient maize ears found in Oaxaca and Tehuacan, dates back roughly 6,250 to 5,450 years, confirming its long history of cultivation.
Corn was often grown alongside beans and squash in the Three Sisters polyculture, a sustainable agricultural system practiced by Native Americans.
