Our volunteers were delighted to visit @TBCG_Official's @CentralBeds campus in Dunstable today for the college's Wellbeing Fair. It's always a pleasure to talk to such engaged and polite students about mental health and the support @samaritans offers. Thank you for inviting us!

As students and staff return to Bedfordshire, we’ve got two teams of volunteers out in the community today supporting student welcome events. We’re delighted to be invited back by @uniofbeds and @CentralBeds as they welcome their students.
We’re also at @CentralBeds until 2pm where we’d love to say hello and have a chat about what we do. Whether you’re a new student or returning for another year, we know it can be both an exciting and challenging time. We're always here on 116 123 if you need someone to listen.

Sometimes the hardest words to say are the most important.
While 74% feel comfortable discussing mental health, only 45% would talk about suicidal thoughts.
By having more open conversations, we give people the chance to express how they feel and get the support they need.

"I want people to be unafraid to ask, 'Have you had suicidal thoughts?'"
After a suicide attempt, Rebekah called us. A volunteer asking, "Are you feeling suicidal?" gave her space to say 'yes' and get the help she needed.

It’s OK to ask someone if they’re feeling suicidal.
Choose a quiet space, give your full attention, and put your phone down. Ask open questions and listen without judgement.
Asking can help them open up and start a conversation that could save their life 💚
