🚨Saturday Shoutout 🚨 Please join me in congratulating Salem’s very own Perla Peguero who I nominated to be Salem’s honoree for the @MABLLC Latino Excellence Award in 2024. It was such a pleasure to be able to host Perla and her husband Rich at the state house and to celebrate all of the positive impact Perla has had in our community. As a long-time educator in the @SalemSchoolsk12, a member of the Latino Leadership Coalition, and the Dominican Flag committee Perla has been a steadfast driver of accelerating student achievement, bridging across cultures, and enriching civic engagement in the Latino community. A well-deserved honor for an incredible leader in our community.

We honor the extraordinary legacy of Gloria Lavera Fox, a trailblazing advocate for justice, equity, and community empowerment. Her 30-year tenure in the MA Legislature worked to transform criminal justice, housing, and health. Gloria’s impact will inspire generations to come.

It was wonderful to see Jenny Garcia—executive director of Ateneo de Nueva Inglaterra and a prominent Merrimack Valley community leader—recognized during the Latino Excellence on the Hill Awards.

Thank you @MassAGO for launching an independent investigation into the tragic death of Enrique. I firmly support this independent investigation as Enrique‘s family deserves the full transparency with respect to the circumstances of his death. I join my colleagues in extending my condolences to his family, friends; and colleagues like 🙏🏾
We remain heartbroken over the tragic death of Enrique Delgado-Garcia, a state police cadet who lost his life following a training exercise earlier this month. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and community during this incredibly difficult time.

In Massachusetts, Elizabeth Freeman and Quock Walker sued for their freedom, making our state the first to abolish slavery. Boston became a hub of the abolitionist movement, and the 54th Regiment mustered here to change the course of the Civil War.     That’s part of the legacy we celebrate on Juneteenth, and it’s the example that we must live up to every single day. Great to join @MABLLC this morning to raise the Juneteenth flag at the State House.
