The General Assembly today passed legislation (2026-H 8604A, 2026-S 3367A) introduced by @MASSforRep and @SenLouDiPalma that would change Rhode Island tax law relating to the filing of a 1099 form to make it consistent with policies of the Internal Revenue Service. The measure now moves to the governor’s office. “This legislation brings Rhode Island into conformance with the IRS guidelines where 1099 wages need to be reported,” said Rep. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Rhode Island has honored @MASSforRep as its 2026 advocacy champion. She was surprised with the award at the foundation’s Advocacy Action Day Tuesday at the State House. The award was given in recognition of Representative Shallcross Smith’s efforts to establish and maintain a 988 call center in Rhode Island.
