This video is a reading of a letter written by inmates of Brasília's female prison, about the hell they go through since male offenders were transferred to the prison.
This was sent to authorities in 2021 and since then the situation only got worse.
Here is a translation.
Ladies, We are writing to make some complaints regarding the transsexuals who are housed in Wing “A” of Block 06 (PFDF). Since their arrival, we inmates in pre-trial detention have been placed at a disadvantage in several respects.
We understand that to be a transsexual one does not necessarily need to have a feminine appearance, but rather to feel like a woman in some way. It is from this notion that many men have declared themselves with this sexual orientation, many with the intention of having a better life here in the penitentiary and also of becoming involved with their companions who are already transsexual.
We inmates of the pre-trial regime have since been deprived of any privacy and one example is we can't use the bathroom or shower because they constantly look into our cells and even make obscene gestures. Another example is that they do not follow the prison's rules and during sunbathing they perform oral sex for everyone to see, kiss, have anal sex inside the bathroom. Because of this it was a rule was established, that they would use only one of the bathrooms in the yard, but if the officers look the other way even for a moment, they start using the other one as well.
Regarding the interaction with the police, what bothers us most is that they do not respect established procedures, they insult, destroy public property, kick doors and walls, and because of this the prison is constantly paralyzed, according to their will, since the police then has to put our wing into lockdown. This requires special procedures, the sounding of sirens, and many times this prevents us from having our time outside, even prevents that for other wings too, because unfortunately reinforcement is needed as they respect no one.
With all this, some get punished and sent to isolation and it ends our peace, because they spend the entire night kicking doors, making noise for nothing. We have spent many nights awake because of these episodes.
As if all this were not enough, some are self-mutilating to obtain medical attention from the health unit, some say they have psychological problems to receive medication to sleep. When they cut themselves, the wing is left full of blood and it is up to the inmates (the women) to clean it. When they receive razors for personal hygiene, they remove the blades and threaten one another with them., something that never happened with the women. We can no longer bear it so much noise; since they arrived here, our lives have become absolute hell.
We feel threatened and embarrassed, because unfortunately some inmates must have contact with them, and many times they say unpleasant things in the yard such as: “You’re beautiful,” “You look like my ex-girlfriend,” etc.
At a certain time, the inmates were sharing the corridor with them, and there was an episode where they even sent over semen so women could become pregnant.
There was also a fight episode in the yard between a couple, motivated by jealousy, in which one of them threw hot coffee at their partner.
Many find it bad when we women call them “girl,” “young lady,” “woman.” They have changed their respective male names, but do not want to be treated as women.
Regarding visits: they have their visits in the first time slot of the day, and we pre-trial inmates in the second time slot. When our turn comes, they do not respect it; they keep shouting from one cell to another, singing, etc. There is no respect.
Finally, and no less important, we would like to record that on July 2nd 2021 the Public Prosecutor’s Office visited the block. On that date, many inmates of the pre-trial regime were in the yard and tried to approach the MP to ask for attention, which was denied.
