ALT Urgent Rwanda Notice - Seek legal advice

ALT There are reports that the Home Office is detaining people seeking asylum, in order to send them to Rwanda.​ ​ Most people will not be sent there, as Rwanda can only take a small number of people. You may be at risk if you: Arrived without a visa and claimed asylum on or after 1 January 2022, AND​ Came on a 'dangerous route' and passed through a country where you could have claimed asylum, AND​ Have not had an asylum interview, been sent a questionnaire or had a decision on your claim ​ **Children, family members of children in the UK and Rwandans cannot be sent to Rwanda

ALT How do I know if I am at risk? People at risk will get a letter from the Home Office called a 'notice of intent,' saying they might be sent to a 'safe third country,' including Rwanda​ ​ You would then get another letter from the Home Office saying that your asylum claim is 'inadmissible'. This means the UK will not decide your asylum claim, and you can be put in immigration detention and sent to Rwanda ​ WHAT CAN I DO? ​ You can challenge this decision. The Home Office cannot send you to Rwanda if you can show you would face "a real, imminent and foreseeable risk of serious and irreversible harm" there.​ ​ There are different ways to challenge this decision, depending on when you arrived in the UK. If the Home Office has sent you a notice of intent or an inadmissibility decision, seek legal advice from a qualified lawyer immediately. ​
