Each year in winter we see an increase in the number of #fires caused by heating, but there is a lot you can do to protect yourself, your family and your home.
Install smoke alarms in all bedrooms, living areas and hallways, and test them each month by pressing the test button.
In a fire, silence can be deadly.

Last winter our firefighters responded to 383 residential house fires across the metropolitan district which works out to about four fires per day!

A fantastic result. MFB’s quick response to emergency medical incidents alongside our @AmbulanceVic colleagues is saving lives and that is something we can all be proud of. 👏🚒🚑
Last month our firefighters responded to 300 medical emergencies. MFB co-responds with the nearest @AmbulanceVic crew and provides life-saving emergency care to patients who are unconscious, aren't breathing or who don't have a pulse. #NotJustFires #WeWorkAsOne

In a fire, the location of a smoke alarm can be the difference between life and death. This is why it is vital to have interconnected smoke alarms throughout your home so when one alarm activates, all smoke alarms will sound.

Through regular training and drills our firefighters remain ready to tackle any emergency that arises.
This is a great example of how our Urban Search and Rescue firefighters put their knowledge and skills to work to stabilise a damaged building.
Our Urban Search and Rescue firefighters were busy this week familiarising themselves with shoring support methods, which are used to stabilise and prop up damaged buildings.

There is no point having a smoke alarm if it isn’t working properly, or if it’s in the wrong location.

Excellent work from our crews in Southern, Central and Eastern Districts who worked seamlessly to contain this fire on the Monash Freeway over the weekend. 🚒👍
More than a dozen MFB firefighters made their way to the Monash Freeway after a fire took hold of a semi-trailer just before 9am.
Crews arrived and quickly contained the fire located at the front of the semi-trailer & made the scene safe in just over two hours. 🚒🚒
