The curtain fell on the 2021-22 season for
@AlabamaMBB in San Diego as disaster struck early when Jahvon Quinerly crumpled to the floor with a knee injury that ended his afternoon in the NCAA Tournament.
Alabama spent the remainder of the game battling without one of its playmakers and frustration eventually boiled over for
@nate_oats who received a technical foul with 2:15 remaining in the game.
Oats erupted after officials ignored what he believed to be contact on Keon Ellis during a missed jump shot. The outburst earned Oats the 15th technical foul of his Alabama career and marked just the second loss in a game featuring one of his trademark disagreements with officials.
Alabama never recovered from Quinerlyโs absence and the coaching staff learned later the injury was a torn ACL. The Crimson Tide struggled to establish offensive rhythm, while Notre Dame dictated the pace and capitalized on defensive breakdowns.
Notre Dame rode the hot hand of Ryan Cormac, who delivered one of the most damaging shooting performances Alabama faced all season. Cormac made seven three-pointers and poured in a game-high 29 points.
Keon Ellis led Alabama with 16 points, while Jaden Shackelford added 13.
The 78-64 defeat ended an up-and-down season that featured victories over Gonzaga, Houston, Baylor, and Tennessee, while dropping Oatsโ record in games featuring a technical foul to 12-2.
