In Progress: Perinatal Death Surveillance and Reviews in Bugiri District Our teams and other health professionals is conducting Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (PDSR) reviews at Bugiri Hospital in Bugiri District to assess and analyze cases of perinatal deaths, identify contributing factors, and recommend actions to prevent future occurrences. The review process brings together healthcare workers and key stakeholders to examine the quality of maternal and newborn care, strengthen accountability, and improve health system responses. Findings from the reviews will inform interventions aimed at enhancing service delivery, promoting safe motherhood, and reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths.

A District Task Force meeting is underway at the Mayuge District Health Office, chaired by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC). The meeting has brought together implementing partners, political leaders, security team leads, surveillance team members, and representatives from the District Veterinary Office. It spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected persons, contaminated materials, or the bodies of persons who have died from the disease. Our Maternal and Child Health Specialist, Ms. Christine Zawedde, conducted a health education session at Nankoma Sub-county in Bugiri District focusing on the importance of antenatal care visits. The session also addressed key concerns raised by community members, including the increasing reliance on Traditional Birth Attendants. The engagement aimed at promoting safe motherhood practices and strengthening community awareness on maternal and child health services.

The teams have so far conducted outreaches in rural sub-counties of Nankoma, Musongola, Buwererwe, Ndeeba, Busanzi, Ndikafukulya, Kireka, Mugona โ€œAโ€, Bugona โ€œBโ€, Through the LPHS-EC Activity, we are leveraging on the ICHD platform to reduce the MR2 (second dose of measles-rubella) overwhelming dropout rate of 79% and 54.7% exhibited in Bugiri and Namayingo districts.
