In the first game of a doubleheader between the Pirates and Padres, Dock Ellis threw a no-hitter while reportedly under the influence of LSD.
Ellis said the threw his notorious no-no despite being unable to feel the ball or see the batter or catcher clearly.
Ellis walked eight and struck out six, but got great defensive support from his teammates.
Ellis regretted taking the drug because it robbed him of what should have been one of his greatest memories.
Ellis would start the All-Stsr game and win a World Series title with the Pirates in 1971. He retired after the 1979 season with a career record of 138-119.
